PADDLER'S PROMISE

“We each play a part in creating the kind of community we’re proud to be part of”

How we support each other, on and off the water:  Being part of the Shuswap Paddling Club means being part of a community.  Our Paddler’s Promise reflects how we choose to show up for one another—on the water, around the dock and in all club-related activities and communications.  Together, we create an environment that is safe, respectful and welcoming for everyone.

Be Considerate:  We paddle as a team.  Our actions—on and off the water—affect those around us.  Taking a moment to be aware of others, offering support when needed and contributing positively to the group experience helps make the club stronger for everyone.

Be Respectful:  Respect is the foundation of our community.  We treat one another with fairness, honesty and kindness.  We value each person’s contribution and respect individual differences, including background, identity and experience.  We do not accept discrimination, harassment, or personal attacks of any kind.  We also respect the shared equipment and facilities that make our programs possible and we follow the guidelines that help keep everyone safe.

Work Together:  Paddling is built on teamwork.  We support one another, communicate openly and contribute to a positive, encouraging environment.  Whether on the water or behind the scenes, collaboration helps everyone succeed.

Handling Concerns:  From time to time, misunderstandings or disagreements may arise.  When they do, we approach them with patience, respect and a willingness to listen.  If a concern needs support, members are encouraged to speak with a coach, team leader, or club representative.  If further attention is required, matters may be brought forward to club Directors for review.  The Board may take appropriate action when necessary to ensure the well-being of individuals and the integrity of the club.

Our Shared Responsibility:  By being part of the Shuswap Paddling Club, each of us agrees to uphold this Promise and to follow the safety practices that support a positive and secure experience for all.
